About this role
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout university facilities. This position performs routine cleaning and custodial duties in classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and other campus facilities while following established safety and sanitation procedures.
Schedule: Mon-Fri 2pm-10:30pm
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, lobbies, stairwells, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and maintain floors and carpets.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, and floors.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and properly dispose of waste.
- Dust and wipe down furniture, desks, windowsills, doors, and other surfaces.
- Clean windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces as assigned.
- Refill restroom and facility supplies, including soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, and other materials.
- Assist with floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning as needed.
- Maintain custodial closets, equipment, and supplies in a clean and organized manner.
- Follow proper procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and operating custodial equipment.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or facility issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with room setups, special events, and campus activities when needed.
- Follow university safety, security, and sanitation policies at all times.
- Perform additional custodial duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
- Must demonstrate professionalism when working around students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Ability to safely operate standard custodial equipment and cleaning tools.
